What are CBD Topicals?

A CBD topical is a product that is formulated for use on the skin that contains cannabidiol (CBD). CBD topicals are applied directly to the skin and are designed to provide temporary relief from a variety of skin, muscle and joint conditions –even minor cuts and sunburns. These products typically contain other skin soothing ingredients, including botanical extracts, and may be referred to by various names, including: CBD balms, creams, ointments, lotions, salves, gels and rubs.

Why Use Topical CBD?

Studies have shown that CBD’s soothing properties help calm skin. A topical CBD product is a great option for providing localized relief to a specific area. You can rub it on your back, knees, arms, ankles, etc. and the product goes to work right where you put it. Since you apply it directly to the skin, a topical CBD product may be useful for help with common skin conditions, sore joints or muscles, minor cuts and abrasions, even sunburns. CBD topicals can also be used for cosmetic reasons – for smoother, more elastic skin or to reduce the look of scars and stretch marks.

How Do CBD Topicals Work?

When you apply a CBD topical, it absorbs into your skin and interacts with the cannabinoid receptors to bring relief to a targeted, localized area. By applying the product to a specific area – like knees, back, shoulders, etc. – you are able to receive the benefits of CBD right where you need it most.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is topical CBD?

A CBD topical is a product that is formulated for use on the skin that contains cannabidiol (CBD). CBD topicals are applied directly to the skin and are designed to provide temporary relief from a variety of skin, muscle and joint conditions.

What are topical CBD products good for?

A topical CBD product is a great option for providing localized relief to a specific area.

How do I know if a topical CBD product is good quality?

Good question! Read labels and ask questions. Ask retailers where the hemp is sourced from and if they do third-party lab tests. Always choose a product made with U.S.-sourced hemp – hemp from other countries can contain contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, etc. Lab tests will show exactly what’s in that product you’re about to purchase. The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe only offers topical CBD products that are made with U.S. sourced hemp and that have been independently lab tested for quality and purity. We have a Certificate of Analysis (COA) available for each of our products that can be accessed by scanning the QR code right on the package.

Will CBD topicals get me high?

No, CBD itself does not get users high. The topical CBD products we carry contain 0.3% THC or less, which is the legal limit for hemp grown in the U.S. This trace amount of THC is not enough to produce a high.

Although the Valley Medicinals Entourage Balm that we carry does contain delta 8 THC, using a small dab of this product at a time will not cause someone to feel high.

Will I fail a drug test if I take CBD?

This applies to full spectrum & broad spectrum CBD products and is a hard question to answer – it really depends on an individual’s consumption of the product and the sensitivity of the drug test being administered. Drug tests are only designed to look for general THC levels and cannot distinguish between THC derived from marijuana and the low level of THC present in full spectrum hemp CBD products. Even the small amount of THC contained in CBD products can potentially cause a drug test failure.

For peace of mind, the Structure Muscle & Joint balm that we carry is THC-free and a good choice for anyone subject to drug screenings. Our other CBD topicals are full spectrum products, meaning they contain all the beneficial cannabinoids of hemp including 0.3% THC or less.

Caution must be taken with drug tests and CBD products. The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe makes no guarantees that an individual will pass a drug test after using CBD products.

How do I use or apply CBD topicals?

Apply a small amount of CBD balm, lotion, salve or muscle gel to clean, dry skin. Massage into the skin until fully absorbed. Many users notice the effects of CBD topicals within 15 to 45 minutes after application. CBD is most effective when used consistently, so regular use of CBD skin care products may lead to more noticeable and sustained benefits over time.

How often should I apply topical CBD?

CBD topicals can be applied as needed throughout the day for continued relief. Always consult your doctor before beginning a CBD regimen and follow dosing guidelines on the product label.

How long do CBD topicals last?

The length of time that the effects of a CBD topical last will vary from person to person and depend on a number of factors, such as the type and size of the affected area and the level of discomfort. CBD topicals can be applied as needed throughout the day for continued relief.

Is topical CBD better than CBD oils or gummies?

Both types of products are equally effective for different applications. Your specific needs – including areas of concern and desired results – can help determine the best option for you. For skin concerns, including temporary relief from dry skin, sore muscles, or localized pa!n, CBD topicals work best. For full body benefits, overall relaxation, improved focus and a variety of other needs, CBD tinctures or gummies may be the best option.

What’s the difference between a CBD lotion and a CBD balm or salve?

CBD lotions, balms and salves differ in their consistency and intended uses. The choice between a lotion and a balm or salve depends on individual needs and application.

A CBD salve or balm is thicker, and typically includes added botanicals and analgesics, like menthol, for extra support. CBD balms and salves are intended for targeted application on specific areas of the body. Because they are so nutrient-rich, CBD balms and salves may be slower to absorb into the skin – a little goes a long way with these products.

Alternatively, CBD lotions have a lighter, more viscous consistency and are designed to be applied to larger areas of the body. Because lotions have a higher water content, they absorb quickly and are a great option for daily use and overall moisturizing.

Does topical CBD help with nerve sensitivity? What about arthrit1s?

Since we are not doctors, we are not able to give medical advice. However, research suggests that CBD’s therapeutic properties, including inf|ammation reduction, may modulate pa;n signaling and offer relief for symptoms associated with neuropathy and arthrit1s.
