What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of hundreds of beneficial compounds found in the cannabis plant. Hemp-derived CBD products from The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe naturally have low levels of THC (0.3% or less), which is the psychoactive compound that gets users “high”. CBD products may offer users natural wellness benefits without the psychoactive “high” effect.

Does CBD have any side effects?
“Researchers have found no significant side effects on the central nervous system, the vital signs, or mood, even among people who used high dosages.”

Will CBD get me high?
No, CBD does not get users high. It is a chemical compound found in cannabis plants that may provide natural wellness benefits. In contrast, THC is the psychoactive compound that makes users feel “high”.

How does CBD work in the body?

Here’s the high level overview:

N

CBD is one of more than 100 active compounds, called cannabinoids, present in the cannabis (hemp) plant.

N

The human body naturally produces cannabinoids via the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

N

The ECS is responsible for regulating homeostasis in the body – in other words, maintaining a state of equilibrium.

N

When the body is not in homeostasis it can suffer from a variety of common conditions.

N

CBD works naturally within the human body and the ECS to bring balance and relief from a range of common conditions.

What types of CBD products are there?

CBD products come in many forms, from CBD-rich flower and oils to CBD topicals and even CBD for pets. Edible products, like CBD gummies, are extremely popular and widely available.

While there are a number of ways to take CBD, it really comes down to personal preference. The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe offers the following types of CBD products:

Ingestible: Gummies, drinks, oils

An ingestible CBD product is something you consume, like a CBD oil or a CBD drink. CBD gummies may take longer for effects to set in, but they tend to last longer. CBD oils & drinks have a faster onset time but shorter duration for effects.

Topicals: Lotions, balms, salves

A topical CBD product is something you rub on your skin. As the product absorbs into your body, it provides targeted relief in the area where it was applied (knees, back, shoulders, etc.). If your goal is to achieve immediate, targeted relief in a specific location, a topical CBD product may be your best bet. Topical products can be used alone or in combination with other types of CBD products.

For Pets: Oils, treats

Animals experience many of the same conditions as humans, like joint pa!n and anx!ety. Our pet-specific CBD products are perfectly dosed for your furry friends and contain no THC.

What's the difference between Full spectrum, Broad spectrum & Isolate CBD products?

Full Spectrum CBD

This is a product that utilizes the full power of the hemp plant. In addition to CBD, a full spectrum product (like the Cibadol 1800mg oil) will contain other beneficial cannabinoids from hemp, such as CBC, CBG and CBN as well as terpenes (plant essential oils), flavonoids and fatty acids. Full spectrum CBD products will also contain a tiny bit of THC (less than 0.3%), as THC is naturally present in hemp in small quantities. Having all these compounds present in a full spectrum CBD product creates the “entourage effect” – meaning they work together synergistically to create a more effective result.

Broad Spectrum CBD

This is similar to a full-spectrum CBD product, but without THC. Broad spectrum CBD products offer the same “entourage effect” associated with full-spectrum CBD. This type of CBD product (like the Wyld CBD gummies) is an excellent choice for individuals who want the full benefits of the hemp plant without THC.

Note: trace amounts of THC may still be present in these products. The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe makes no guarantee that an individual will pass a drug test after using these products.

CBD Isolate

A CBD isolate product contains only CBD. All other natural compounds contained in the hemp plant – including other cannabinoids, terpenes, oils, and THC – are removed during processing, offering a finished product that’s CBD and nothing more. These products (like the Valley Medicinals 3000mg THC-free oil) are a good choice for individuals who want the power of CBD without any of the other compounds from the hemp plant.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About CBD

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of hundreds of compounds naturally found in the hemp plant. It has been used for thousands of years in a medicinal capacity. CBD is a non-intoxicating component of hemp that has a wide range of beneficial properties. It does not produce a high, unlike THC. CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system to promote a sense of balance and wellness.

What is the difference between hemp & marijuana?

You can think of hemp and marijuana as cousins. They are both part of the same Cannabis sativa L. plant family but have a different genetic profile. Hemp and marijuana vary in appearance, composition, application, cultivation needs and legality. Generally speaking, marijuana contains higher amounts of THC than CBD, while hemp is the opposite – the hemp plant contains high amounts of CBD and only trace amounts of THC.

All products offered at The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe are derived from hemp.

What is the difference between CBD & THC?

While CBD and THC are both naturally-occurring compounds in cannabis plants, THC is psychoactive (gets users high) while CBD is non-psychoactive (wellness without the high).

Will CBD get me high?

No, CBD itself does not get users high. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound that is extracted from the hemp plant. Hemp grown legally in the U.S. can contain no more than 0.3% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the compound in cannabis that gets you high. The trace amount of THC found in legal hemp, and naturally present in full spectrum CBD products, is not enough to produce a high.

Is CBD legal?

Yes, CBD is legal. In Texas, Governor Abbott signed House Bill 1325 in June 2019, which legalized the manufacture and sale of hemp-derived products containing less than 0.3% THC. Hemp was also made federally legal with the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill. Currently, hemp is legal in all 50 states.

What is CBD oil?

The term ‘CBD oil’ refers to a hemp-derived product that contains CBD (and possibly other cannabinoids from hemp) with THC levels below 0.3%.

How does CBD work?

CBD works by interacting with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). Every person has an ECS, and this crucial lock and key system is responsible for regulating major physiological functions like mood, sleep, pain control, etc. When our bodies produce endocannabinoids, they attach to corresponding cannabinoid receptors to nudge all systems towards homeostasis (balance). CBD triggers the same reaction in the ECS, helping our bodies restore harmony & balance.

Will I fail a drug test if I take CBD?

This applies to full spectrum & broad spectrum CBD products and is a hard question to answer – it really depends on an individual’s consumption of the product and the sensitivity of the drug test being administered. Drug tests are only designed to look for general THC levels and cannot distinguish between THC derived from marijuana and the low level of THC present in full spectrum hemp CBD products. Even the small amount of THC contained in CBD products can potentially cause a drug test failure.

Caution must be taken with drug tests and CBD products. The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe makes no guarantees that an individual will pass a drug test after consuming CBD products.

Does CBD have any side effects?

“Researchers have found no significant side effects on the central nervous system, the vital signs, or mood, even among people who used high dosages. The most common side effect was tiredness. Also, some people reported diarrhea and changes in appetite or weight.”

Will CBD interact with my current medications?

It’s possible. We recommend talking with your doctor prior to taking CBD if you are taking other medications.

How much CBD should I take and how often?

How much to take: there’s really no right answer to this question, as every person’s body & needs are different.

We recommend taking topical products as needed whenever you are experiencing symptoms such as pain, muscle soreness/fatigue, etc.
For ingestible CBD products we recommend starting with a low dose and increasing as necessary to find your CBD ‘sweet spot’.

How often to take CBD:

There is no set limit on how many times a day you can use CBD products. Since everyone’s body is different you should go by how you feel and use as needed.

How do I know what type of CBD product is best for me?

When it comes to CBD, personal preference is generally the best way to choose between topical CBD, oils, edibles and CBD drinks. Since every individual is different, what works for your coworker, friend or relative may not be the best choice for you. It may take experimenting with several types of CBD products to find the one(s) that work best for your body. CBD oils, gummies, drinks and other CBD edibles are made for oral consumption, while topical CBD is applied to the skin and absorbed into the body. If you have a hard time taking CBD oils, you may want to try great-tasting CBD gummies or CBD drinks instead.

How do I know if a CBD product is good quality?

Good question! Read labels and ask questions. Ask retailers where the hemp is sourced from and if they do third-party lab tests. Always choose a product made with U.S.-sourced hemp – hemp from other countries can contain contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, etc. Lab tests (COAs) will show exactly what’s in that hemp product you’re about to ingest. The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe only offers products that are made with U.S. sourced hemp and that have been independently lab tested for quality and purity. There is a Certificate of Analysis (COA) available for each of our products that can be accessed by scanning the QR code right on the package.

Does CBD expire?

CBD products usually have a shelf life of one to two years. This is often dependent on the other ingredients in the formula. CBD products may change color slightly as the product ages – this is natural and does not indicate an expired product.

How should I store my CBD products?

For the best shelf life, keep your CBD oil and other CBD products in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. This will help to preserve the hemp extract for as long as possible. If stored properly, CBD oil, CBD gummies, and topical CBD products can have a shelf life of up to two years.

What’s the difference between hemp seed oil and CBD oil?

Hemp seed oil comes from the seed of hemp plant and, while full of nourishing Vitamin E, fatty acids and other good stuff, contains only negligible amounts of CBD, if any. CBD oil (also called full spectrum hemp oil/extract) is an oil that contains Cannabidiol (CBD). CBD is extracted from the flowers of the hemp plant and mixed with a base oil (often coconut or MCT) to create a CBD oil. Make sure to check the product ingredients to verify what’s inside.

Can I take CBD if... I’m pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition or take prescription medications?

We are not doctors so we are unable to give medical advice regarding CBD. Please speak to your healthcare provider before taking CBD if you are pregnant or nursing, have a health condition or are taking prescription medications.
